On the page, it says that due to the lower suspension arm being
shorter, the angle of the wheel changes a tiny bit with suspension
travel. I'm having trouble imagining which way the wheels would tilt,
but could this be adapted to provide significant tilt that evens out
the sideways shift of the wheel center as the suspension travels?

That's an interesting idea!  I've pondered a bit about this, and I think
the wheels tilt the correct way, but I'm not quite sure about it.  I'll
take a look at the model when I come home.

Now I understand why some car manufacturers advertise "unequal length
wishbones"!

I see...I hadn't made that conection either.

more complicated.  For the small wheels (compared with the 8880!), I
really need a sleek and compact suspension.

Well, you have achieved that. (Though I wonder how wiggly the use of
the new steering parts makes it - I haven't done much with them, but
on 8428/32, those semi-large wheels were downright floppy.)

I'll try to get even more compact, though, by the narrowest and
either flattest or shortest (front-to-back of vehicle) implementation
of plain steering on a live axle with Panhard-rod as in your
white 30s racer, but with 3 z24 or z16 gears on the Panhard rod
instead of a U-jointed column (1 on each pivot and 1 connecting them
in the middle), with the aim of still fitting an engine in the
front for a 16-wide vehicle somewhat sensibly scaled for 8845 or
MT wheels. Considering the space steering takes away from
the engine compartment, rear-engined sports cars make sense suddenly...

And then there's a fixed steering setup, which each wheel on a little
swingarm on the knuckle...

(...) It does wiggle a bit, there's no denying that. But it still works very well, actually. Fredrik (25 years ago, 25-Jun-99, to lugnet.build)
