Hi Welshie,
|
I know that this is going to be an idiot question, but when you say 1 stud=
1 minifig foot. What does that look like? I know I know that sounds stupid,
but I am currently not at home and thus do not have my Lego pieces in front
of me, so I cannot stack them up to confirm my thoughts. Does anyone have a
picture?
I have not dealt at all with scaling and have been wanting to learn a little
more so any help would be more than welcome. Thanks in advance.

On the contrary, your question is the crux of the issue, that being scale in the
LEGO Minifig world.
I am going to base my answer on a few assumptions, so please forgive me if pass
along some data which you already know.
Studs are of course the bumpy things protruding from atop most LEGO elements.
Thus, if you take the scale submitted by David and John, that being 1 stud = 1
foot, it just means, for example, that your standard 2x4 brick would be a 2-feet
by 4-feet brick of material to a minifig.
Which brings us to the dimension of height, which was the basis of my particular
scale question.
Since the scale length of a 1x6 brick would be, naturally, six feet using the
stud/foot approach, this probably would not apply to height, as a 1x1 brick is
taller than it is wider (or longer). In this case, I defer to David Eatons
comment about compressed scale (see his post).
For my part, I was just trying to ensure that my lighthouse for my local and
upcoming LUG event did not appear, to the majority, to be either way too short
or way too tall.
It is as David said; the minifig world was not designed with any particular or
realistic scale in mind, but for convenience sake. I can live with that.
Regards,
Pat Hough
