Hi, folks,

I'm sure this question has been raised many times before, but what is the
current, accepted brick-to-foot ratio, if there is such a thing?

My reason for asking is relatively simple; I am constructing (actually just
finished) a lighthouse for an upcoming LUG event and I did not want the
structure to appear too large. I doubt seriously that appearing to be too short
will be an issue.

So, if we go from the scale of minifig-to-live person, do we assume the average
height of a live person to be 5 feet (averaging a low of 4 feet to a high of 6
feet)? Your standard LEGO minifig, depending upon what you cap the head with, is
just over 4 bricks high. If we assume each minifig to be 6 scale feet in height,
the ratio would be easy:

METHOD 1:
1 brick height = 18 scale inches
4 bricks height = 72 scale inches = 6 scale feet = 1 minifig height

OR:

METHOD 2:
1 brick height = 15 scale inches
4 bricks height = 60 scale inches = 5 scale feet = 1 minifig height

My lighthouse stands approximately 27.25 inches in real height (including the
flagpole at the top) from the baseplate; that equates to 72 bricks high (10
bricks being exactly 3.75 inches high). I really didn't feel like stacking
bricks up and finding out for sure.

Using Method 1, the scale height of the structure would be 108 feet. Using
Method 2, the scale height of the structure would only be 90 feet. These I can
live with; the tallest lighthouse in the United States is the one at Cape
Hatteras, North Carolina, which stands at 208 feet. By contrast, the lighthouse
at Key West, Florida, is only 86 feet height (after extension!). And the nearest
lighthouse to my location is the one at Port Isabel, Texas (South Padre Island),
standing at only 72 feet.

But my question still remains: What is the generally accepted scale(s)?

(...) There really isn't anything "generally accepted." But since figs are so oddly shaped, it makes finding a standard scale practically impossible. What I've seen the most is 1 stud=1 foot, but that makes figs only slightly taller than 5 ft. But (...) (19 years ago, 2-Mar-06, to lugnet.build)

(...) In terms of numbers, somewhere around 1:38 to 1:44, depending on your preference. Most people seem to use one of: 1 stud (8mm) = 1 minifig foot 3 studs (24mm) = 1 minifig meter 1 minifg (42mm) = 6 feet tall But then again, many models are (...) (19 years ago, 2-Mar-06, to lugnet.build)
