as always, i am in awe of your work, eric. your mecha alone demand the
utmost respect from all sorts of lego afficianados. but this base...OMG! i
cant imagine how many legos, how much time, and how much work goes into
that thing. its huge! i especially like the transparent blue ceiling. one
thing, though: where are the minifigs? shouldnt they be standing around
working on something, or are they on a little r & r? oh yeah, i need a
little clarification on the modular thing. i assume its supposed to
connect with other modular creations of the same scale. but when is this
supposed to happen? are all modular models supposed to be connected at one
point, or is it just the idea that they can connect that appeals to
lego-heads? just curious. fantastic work!

Hey buddy! Thank you for the kind words. I spent about 35 hours working on
it. The first 24 in a row. I do that sometimes when I can see the end
product.
There are actually 35 mini-figs within the Moonbase. They are on all
different levels doing things and on the ground floof serviceing the Bots. I
guess they are not that apparent. I also did not go crazy taking pictures of
them. Alot more evident IRL.
About the modularity.
The Moonbase system connecting corridors are standard fair. See
www.classic-space.com for more info. The hanger itself is ment to be
upgraded. I still have more Little Bots (7 total) and this facility houses 4.
Then you can separate the two sections and add another center section. They
connect with Technic pins.
So the Hanger features two kinds of modularity.
1. Standard Moonbase connections at the ends
2. The hanger itself splits in half so more center sections can be added.
This is my own design, in theory when I get enough parts, I can then house
all the Little Bots into their own Hangers.
Notice the split line in the very center of the Mech Bay.
At the last Fan events and LUG meetings and shows, we all bring our moonbases
and connect them together. We are looking to create the largest Moonbase
Collective display at the upcomming North West Brick Con to be held this Oct.
4, 5, and 6th in Seattle.
We had a great display at this past Brick Fest, I even saw our display on the
news!
Any interest in making a Mech Bay Moonbase of your own?
Just a one plater would be great!
You only need a Moonbase Corridor connection to go along with the concept.
Your Mecha would look cool in their own hanger bays.
Interested?

as a matter of fact, i am. unfortunately, even a one-plate moonbase would
require more pieces than i have. i am currently housing two large plano tackle
boxes full of technic pieces and a little over 3, 50 to 60 drawer stack-on
containers for all my other peices. i dont think i have enough of one or even
two colors to build a color-coordinated base. i also dont have enough bricks
to build all my creations at once. i only started building with legos about two
or three years ago, so my collection is meager to say the least. nevertheless,
after seeing hanger creations like yours, sun yuns, and brian coopers, i hope
to one day be able to make a cool hangar of my own, especially if my evangelion
project comes to its fruition.

| (...) What's cool then is, you may be able to use your Technic to make a sort of Lattice or Beam Scaffold. So if you did need alot of brick, instead going Vertical to make the skeloton of a service rig may be do-able. I'm gonna re examine what plate (...) (21 years ago, 19-Aug-03, to lugnet.build, FTX)
