Well... If you build decks by; laying down plates, then covering the seems
with 2 wide bricks, then laying down another layer of plates; you can get away
with very minimal supports. (like the walls of your rooms/bays should suffice)
Of course their are 2 drawbacks to this method. The first is that you use a
lot of plates. The second is there are no 6x8 (or similar size) plates
available from bulk packs. <sign> (It has been 2 years since TLC anounced bulk
packs and I am still waiting for some thing useful like that.)

I can not help here. I try not to build ships with obvious tactical weaknesses
like that. :^)

I can not help here either. All my space-figs wear powered armor suits and
have no use for escape pods.

I have found a very simplistic way to build bunks. Take a 2x8 plate and place 2
stacked 1x2 bricks at each end. Place a 2x2 plate at the feet end and 2x2 tile
at the head end. Viola instant stackable bunk.
