Stacks and stacks of 1x1 plates aren't structurally sound, though you could
make it 2 studs thick and use clear 1x2 plates tied through to the front
layer. That makes it twice as expensive, though, and still not overly solid.
What you really need to do this would be some large clear baseplates so that
you could do it studs-forward style. The closest way of doing this with
existing parts would be with 6x8 trans-yellow plates. But I think you'd
have a bit of trouble getting enough to do a sizeable mosaic.
Yet another approach would be more like a real stained-glass window. Use
black plates to frame a bunch of small panels of stacked 1x1 plates.

| (...) Eric and Tony, I have a simple solution to your problem, (at least until transparent white baseplates are available). Make a "LEGO sandwich" between two sheets of glass and a frame. Build a frame with a sheet of plate glass in it, arange the (...) (23 years ago, 31-Jan-02, to lugnet.build)
