New MOC: 8 wide Lotus Esprit S4 —Bram Lambrecht
I was chatting with Mladen one day about the difficulty of creating tapered windshields at small scales, and he suggested using flex tubes in this manner. I had dismissed this idea because I thought it would be too weak for my tastes, but it turns (...)      WOW! I can't believe you actually built it! ;-) Great work as ALWAYS Bram! My brother is a *big* fan of James Bond (as am I), and he just loves the Lotus! However, I do think the model is missing a minifig Roger Moore! ;-) Again, excellent job. (...) (23 years ago, 19-Sep-01, to lugnet.build)

(...) Awesome Bram! That is great! To me, the main disinguishing feature of the esprit are the tail lights, you recreated them perfectly, absoluetely great work. Is it minifig scale? seems a tad small to be, not sure though. This is really great (...) (23 years ago, 19-Sep-01, to lugnet.build)

(...) Thanks! The tail lights were probably the easiest thing to build :) (...) A minifig without extra hair or a hat just fits. Two fit, actually. --Bram Bram Lambrecht bram@cwru.edu (URL) (23 years ago, 19-Sep-01, to lugnet.build)

Re: New MOC: 8 wide Lotus Esprit S4 —Fredrik Glöckner
(...) Do you mean the car is too small? I've stood next to an Espirit once, and it reached me up to the hip, approximately. I think that if you put a minifig next to Bram's car, it will be just barely taller than the roof. It is very difficult to (...) (23 years ago, 19-Sep-01, to lugnet.build)

Bram, Well of course I like this one too! Glad Mladen suggested using tubes for the windshield frame; I agree with the tail lights comment, and I especially like the tapered front via the use of 2x1 wall panels. (I may have to borrow that idea (...) (23 years ago, 20-Sep-01, to lugnet.build)

RE: New MOC: 8 wide Lotus Esprit S4 —Bram Lambrecht
(...) Thanks! (...) The tapered front was an afterthought...but I really like the way it turned out. It looks much less squared off than when it was 8 wide all the way. (...) Usually, it's a matter of how they're attached. On some of the cars (like (...) (23 years ago, 20-Sep-01, to lugnet.build)

Re: New MOC: 8 wide Lotus Esprit S4 —A. Mark Wilburn
(...) Yeah, I see; it's unfortunate LEGO doesn't have a 1x3 with 2 studs on top with half stud offsets (using the 1x2 tiles with single stud on top makes going from 3 studs to 2 very flimsy!); as for the 2x4 plate... hmm, you're right, I can't think (...)         RE: New MOC: 8 wide Lotus Esprit S4 —Bram Lambrecht
(...) Well, it's either a slightly hollowed out look or the hollow studs, which I don't like much either. (...) Heheh...it's not a '77 Lotus though :) I think you'd have to go to a slightly bigger scale to make it convert (12 or 16 wide?) I'd love (...) (23 years ago, 22-Sep-01, to lugnet.build)
