(...) Just the other day, I received an older (from 1992) set, which had some of each. The trans-red 1x1 rounds were on a sprue, but the grey 1x1 rounds were not, and there was an extra grey part. Steve (26 years ago, 9-Feb-99, to lugnet.build)

Groups set to l.build as well as this is a more general topic (...) It is my belief that this formerly was common practice as the 1x1 round plate was just about the smallest part TLG made other than flowers which also came that way. I have seen this (...) (...) Think, think, think.... A-HA! I get it. I was hung-up on your term "suspenders". You mean the large Technic springs (or as I would call them, shock absorbers). I used a 4595.dat Brick 1 x 2 x 2/3 with Studs on Sides between them so each (...) (26 years ago, 9-Feb-99, to lugnet.build)
