Prototype sources (was Re: New MOC Engine: DB V140

A repost from RTL. I said this (and cross posted to rec.model.railroad) in response to Bruce asking for prototype sources as a result of seeing James' model: (...) Walthers is a good source, but the catalog now costs 20 bucks per scale, it is so (...) (26 years ago, 24-Dec-98, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.build)

Re: Tinkering the 8880 suspension setup

(...) This may not be very compact, but mount them on a 2x2 plate with technic pin holes underneath, and you'd get the up/down motion, no? (26 years ago, 24-Dec-98, to lugnet.build)

Re: New MOC Engine: DB V140

(...) diesel (...) I read with anticipation... (...) One of the aspects of LEGO that makes building all the more interesting, if not frustrating at times. But, that's part of the challenge. <snipped comments about small drive wheels> (...) The (...) (26 years ago, 24-Dec-98, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.build)

  Re: 18 wheeler truck

(...) I agree, it's very cool set. It's really inspiring to see the way it is constructed, especially the use of grey and black pieces to make more "structure" in the model. Makes you want to go ahead and build more, which is the purpose of LEGO as (...) (26 years ago, 24-Dec-98, to lugnet.build)

  Re: 18 wheeler truck

(...) I haven't tried this, so take this as rant only, but my guess is that you need to redesign the gear box to motorize the 8880 Supercar. See, the gear box is intended for a vehicle in which the wheels drive the motor, not the other way around. (...) (26 years ago, 24-Dec-98, to lugnet.build)

Re: Tinkering the 8880 suspension setup

(...) Ah, but they're not the kind which can tilt in the end opposite to the ball joint, right? The ones on the 8437 are basically a 2x1 plate with an A-arm and a ball joint? I'm sorry to say that it's probably hard to make independent front (...) (26 years ago, 24-Dec-98, to lugnet.build)

  Re: 18 wheeler truck

(...) I believe the truck weighed more. By just a little bit. The super car had heft, but it wasn't real heavy. BTW, if you ever get a super car, try dropping it from about a foot up onto a tabletop. Cool... :-) (...) I just went through gearing an (...) (26 years ago, 24-Dec-98, to lugnet.build)

  Re: 18 wheeler truck

(...) Cool set, huh? Though that huge pile of bricks when beginning is a bit daunting. I left mine together for over a year, and just tore it apart last weekend. Sorting it all out was a _pain_, but I needed some of those parts. -- Terry K -- (26 years ago, 24-Dec-98, to lugnet.build)

Bram Lambrecht wrote in message <19981223.221425.509...no.com>... (...) I think the 5571 is heavier - I've got both but haven't had them both assembled at the same time. 4 of the ungeared motors will move a supercar, but I had to "wreck" the car to (...) (26 years ago, 24-Dec-98, to lugnet.build)
