Unfortunately, I don't have the super car, so I couldn't tell you whick
weighs more.  The 5571 is *heavy* and that's why my motorization didn't
work.

I think the 5571 is heavier - I've got both but haven't had them both
assembled at the same time.

4 of the ungeared motors will move a supercar, but I had to "wreck" the
car to put them in it, and so no, I don't really think it can be done
while keeping the car intact-ish. Wreck means removing the suspension,
transmission and rear steering so I could put in one motor per wheel.
After that it's not really a supercar any more.

What does work is making a stand and using a single motor to turn
the engine. You get to see the effect of the different gears and
so on, and it looks quite nice.

I have motorised a much bigger model, but I used an RS540 motor from a
radio controlled car, and a non-Lego gearbox (with 4 output axles!).
I have since made an assembly that I think could do that job, using
4 ungeared motors driving a single 40T gear, which drive another
8-40T stage to the output, but I'm not sure this is any better than
distributing the motors through the model.

(...) I haven't tried this, so take this as rant only, but my guess is that you need to redesign the gear box to motorize the 8880 Supercar. See, the gear box is intended for a vehicle in which the wheels drive the motor, not the other way around. (...) (26 years ago, 24-Dec-98, to lugnet.build)
