GBC- Magnetic Ball Separator —Kevin McClure
I just finished my new module, a magnetic ball seperator. There was a discussion a while back about building a module that could detect a single 'tracerball' in the ball flow. The red and blue basketballs were ruled out, because the light sensor (...) (18 years ago, 19-Jan-07, to lugnet.announce.moc)

Re: GBC- Magnetic Ball Separator —Brian Davis
(...) Excellent! That looks like a really great addition to any GBC: for one thing, I've often wondered how long it takes to complete "one lap", and you really need a long average (as some modules recycle balls, etc.) I hope it's OK with you if I (...)      What set has a magnetic ball? (18 years ago, 19-Jan-07, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: GBC- Magnetic Ball Separator —steve
(...) I think it's a magnetic "ball-separator" - not a "magnetic-ball" separator. :-) I have a bunch of steel ball-bearings in my Lego storage system - so they must be used in one set or another - I have no idea which ones though. There are also (...) (18 years ago, 19-Jan-07, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Er, yeah, um, hehe, I meant to say What set has a steel ball? I'm not dumb, I swear! (18 years ago, 19-Jan-07, to lugnet.robotics, FTX)

Re: GBC- Magnetic Ball Separator —Joshua Delahunty
(...) For the ball used in the video: Go to www.peeron.com Type "golden egg" (from the description) into the search box, click [Search] Find nothing, so reduce that to "egg", click [Search] Skim the results for matching parts that mention metal.       Bah! I was simply too lazy to look it up myself. :D (And Peeron has been loading pages very slowly for me lately.) (18 years ago, 19-Jan-07, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: GBC- Magnetic Ball Separator —Joshua Delahunty
(...) Whoa, my apologies for leaving out a smiley in the first posting. I was as lazy as you at the fore, thinking "why not mention which set in the initial post?", so I had to look it up myself. A shame that set seems to have been released for such (...)           Re: GBC- Magnetic Ball Separator —Kevin McClure
(...) Thanks to those of you who filled in the set information. I actually got the balls from Bricklink, and the only thing I knew about them was they were from the Harry Potter sets. Peeron has been loading slow for me as well, and with that darn (...) (18 years ago, 21-Jan-07, to lugnet.robotics, FTX)

Re: GBC- Magnetic Ball Separator —Peter Ehrlich
(...) You may be able to kick the motor entirely. Have you tried embedding magnets in the floor and walls, close enough to attract, but not so much as to grab the ball? You could increase the slope to help with this also. :-) If the ball is magnetic (...) (18 years ago, 20-Jan-07, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: GBC- Magnetic Ball Separator —Brian Davis
(...) I thought of this immediately, specificly adapting the light sensor / train magent trick to try to get the dragon's egg to register. Alas, I've not gotten it to work (*yet*...), as the ball is not actually magnetic, but just has a piece of (...) (18 years ago, 21-Jan-07, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: GBC- Magnetic Ball Separator —Kevin McClure
(...) I've tried the no motor thing, but gave up after I could'nt get it to work. The pulling the ball to the side was one of the first things that I tried, but there are too many things that were uncontrollable. For instance, the direction the (...)
