    Calypso... —Joe Meno
To sail on a dream on a crystal clear ocean To ride on the crest of a wild raging storm To work in the service of life and living In search of the answers of questions unknown To be part of the movement and part of the growing Part of beginning to (...)         Re: Calypso... —John Neal
(...) (snip) (...) Cool boat, Joe! And those lyrics! You could be a songwriter furshur! Just be careful flying those experimental airplanes;-) JOHN (20 years ago, 2-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

         Re: Calypso... —Allister McLaren
(...) Um, I think you'll find that John Denver wrote them. Very nice boat though. If this is just a 'proof of concept' I look forward to the real thing (is it going to be minifig scale, or another microscale one? Add another vote of approval for the (...)           Re: Calypso... —David Koudys
(...) I think he knew that with the reference to how John Denver died in an experimental plane crash... (...) I love the boat! There ate two ships that, since I was a kid, I've really really appreciated--One is the 'Big Canoe', the other is the (...) (20 years ago, 2-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

          Re: Calypso... —Joe Meno
(...) Thanks! The real thing will be a minifig scale version (which will be ridiculously big, of course)...and it will be a while in planning and building. And the chopper was one of the fun side projects! Joe (20 years ago, 2-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

         Re: Calypso... —Joe Meno
(...) Thanks! And as for the planes, I build them, not fly them :-) ! Joe (20 years ago, 3-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

        Re: Calypso... —C. L. GunningCook
(...) (snip) I love that shot!!! Micros look so awesome when shot from the figs perspective. (...) Well I think it's wonderful. Nicely played Joe, excellent micro ship, with amazing details and styling. Janey "Red Brick" (20 years ago, 2-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

         Re: Calypso... —Joe Meno
(...) Thanks, Janey! This was a really fun build...and the details were part of the challenge. Micro has some real design challenges that are really fun to ponder and solve, and I'm glad I got into it. Now if I could get onto your level, I'd really (...)         Re: Calypso... —Jean-Pascal Rignault
Snif!.... a tear came to my eye... very nice ship, very nice feel. I love the yellow chopper, very nice use of the minifig transparent head for the canopy! JP. (20 years ago, 2-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

         Re: Calypso... —Joe Meno
(...) Thanks! The chopper was a fun amazingly quick build...once I found that trans head, I knew how to build it! And I had a lot of fun making the ship have such a feel...I spent more than a little time comparing a layout drawing with the model, (...)         Re: Calypso... —Gil Shaw
(...) Cool! The cutter shape you've coaxed out of the plates is perfect and using the 1x1 smoke tiles looks amazing. My fave part...the little sea 'copter. How fun is that? Looks like a delicious candy I could eat. Great build Joe...sell the design (...) (20 years ago, 2-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

         Re: Calypso... —James Wilson
(...) Sorry, Gil. Calypso was a refitted minesweeper, not a cutter. ;-) James Wilson Dallas, TX (20 years ago, 2-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

          Re: Calypso... —Gil Shaw
(...) I was actually referring to the tiny, micro-micro scissors Joe built, sitting on the aft portside deck. :) (20 years ago, 2-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

         Re: Calypso... —Joe Meno
(...) Thanks! A lot of the solutions I used were "happy accidents" - the smoke tiles being a great example. And the chopper? Just some doodling with some parts. And I did send pix to the Cousteau Society to request some info and photos of Calypso. (...) (20 years ago, 3-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

        Re: Calypso... —James Wilson
Joe, I really like your rendition of Calypso. I remember watching "The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau" as a kid - that model brought back memories. And the overall playability reminds me of the (gasp) Tente ships I had as a kid, too. Play on! (...) (20 years ago, 2-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

         Re: Calypso... —Joe Meno
(...) Thanks! I watched some of those shows too, but what I remember the most was reading the books by Cousteau...some beautiful photography was there. And I wanted the ship to have some fun things in it, so the sub had to be incuded, as well as the (...) (20 years ago, 3-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

         Re: Calypso... —James Wilson
(...) I know it was a PBY Catalina, if that helps any... James (20 years ago, 4-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

         Re: Calypso... —Joe Meno
(...) James, that helps! Now I gotta figure out how to build it in scale... Thanks, Joe (20 years ago, 4-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

        Re: Calypso... —Bruce Hietbrink
Hey Joe, The boat is great and I love love LOVE that helicopter. My only suggestion (and this a minor one) is that I think that a 1x4 tile would be better as the helicopter rotor than the 1x4 plate. Great work! Bruce (20 years ago, 2-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

         Re: Calypso... —Joe Meno
(...) Good suggestion, Let me fix that tonight! Thanks! Joe (20 years ago, 2-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

         Re: Calypso... —Joe Meno
(...) Hm, I tried, and the tile looks okay, but really needs effort to attach to the top ...the chopper took a few tires to fit. Joe (20 years ago, 3-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

        Re: Calypso... —Dan Sabath
(...) Damn Joe! That is one sweet version of my favorite vessel. I can't wait to see the large version. Dan Sabath Card Carrying Marine Biologist (20 years ago, 2-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

         Re: Calypso... —Joe Meno
(...) Thanks, Dan! It's going to take a while, so you'll have to be patient. This is my BIG project for the next few months...and when I'm done, I'll have a minifig scale ship with interiors and equipment. Joe (20 years ago, 3-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

        Re: Calypso... —Teunis Davey
(...) Hello , Your model made me cry tears of happiness !! Great story, we need more of this in the world !! Thanks, Teunis. (20 years ago, 3-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

         Re: Calypso... —Joe Meno
(...) No, thank you, Teunis... Joe (20 years ago, 4-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

        Re: Calypso... —Kyle Beatty
(...) I like the red watch cap on the micro Jacques. (20 years ago, 5-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

        Re: Calypso... —George Edward Godwin
I once saw the actual ship sailing into Halifax Harbour as a kid and watched the shows of course. Your little model and the lyrics had me humming the tune and remembering the plastic model kit of Calypso I built as a kid. Are you useing instructions (...) (20 years ago, 7-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

        Re: Calypso... —Joe Meno
(...) You lucky dog. I built the model way back when (a model with LOTS of little additional items, like a camera sled, the helo, the Sea Fleas, and the diving saucer.) But that was a while ago. I used some reference from the (URL) Cousteau Society> (...) (20 years ago, 8-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)
