Biff has landed on Mars

The LEGO minifigure Biff has landed on Mars and became first “man” on the red planet.

Biff Starling - or at least a picture of him - is on board the the rover which landed on Mars on Sunday morning after a seven months journey. In a couple of weeks Biff will be joined by his female friend - the LEGO minifigure Sandy Moondust who is on board a similar Marsrover, Opportunity.

Children all over the world follow, on the Internet, Biff and Sandy on the Mars expedition and the LEGO Company supports the space project to encourage children to develop an interest in the sciences and to encourage children’s imagination, learning and creativity.

Biff is on board the Marsrover which later drives around Mars to search the planet. Scientists hope, with the help of three magnets attached with LEGO bricks made of aluminum, to find out whether there used to be fluid water on Mars.

You can follow Biffs journey on The Planetary Society’s web site.

The top of the DVD is facing (...) (21 years ago, 5-Jan-04, to lugnet.year.2004, FTX)

Also of note, transparent red and green bricks (specifically the larger windshield pieces) make great 3D glasses for viewing 3D mars images: (URL) (21 years ago, 6-Jan-04, to lugnet.year.2004)
