Hi,
it is possible to animate MLCad models. But there is one thing that makes it
hard to do so. There is no good export filter from LDRAW to other programs than
Pov Ray available. What I have done is this:
- creating a model in MLCAD / LDRAW
- exporting this model using Lightwave export filter
- importing LWS-Scene to Cinema 4D
- animating the model (camera) in Cinema 4D
The Cinema 4d work was done by friend of mine who is more familiar with
animations.
Advantages:
- Cinema4D supports animations!
- Cinema4D has a fast render engine
- Cinema4D supports radiosity in a simple way
Disadvantages:
- Model looks like one piece...no more single bricks
- Lightwave export filter has massive problems with multicolored parts of all kinds...windows, rails
- Export filter switches every part to full transparency (in Lightwave too!)
You can see some of the results in my brickshelf gallery:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=48882
I havent got the time to do more atm....
There may be other products that can do the same as C4D. But its allways the
same problem! Missing export filters! You are not able to import .pov sources to
other products than pov ray! And l2p / l3p are the only good and exact working
tools for export / import with the features I need to render good and maybe
realistic pictures.
Greetings
Sven

| (...) Hello, In my opinion one of the most useful feature in a lego animation software could be "model patterns". I mean the user declares "it's a car model" then he can order the doors to open/close, the car to run/stop and the driver to get (...) (21 years ago, 23-Jan-04, to lugnet.animation, lugnet.cad.ray)
