So Ashley can no longer post in the legoland thread? If so, I do not see why
not - he gave us good information and it would not belong in any other
threads - and it was official lego(land) information.

According to someone who worked for Ashley at LEGOLAND California, Ashley
doesn't actually work for LEGO anymore.  If other LEGO employees wish to
post there officially, we'll reexamine the issue.

And what about the
lego guy posting in the bionicale masks thread (spelling - I know it sucks)?
If I am reading this correctly, and I may not be - seeing it is really late
at night for me - but why restrict them in this way? I know you do not want
posts in threads where they do not belong - so why make them give out a
personal email, which they may not want to do so they can post offical
lego(land) posts? I just see no need for any restrictions on Lego workers.

Try not to think of it as a restriction so much as harder lines about where
LEGO employees are invited to post in an official manner.  When LEGO Direct
showed up unannounced in December, 1999, it was a jolt to the community.
Certain things just changed overnight -- some for the better, some for the
worse.  We created the special lugnet.lego.* hierarchy of groups later to
help LEGO Direct focus one aspect of its direct-to-consumer communications
channel.  That's why that area exists and why the offer for LEGO to post
here in and among the fan community shouldn't be assumed to extend to all
the groups.  Remember that LUGNET is a site by fans, for fans -- and the
sanctity of the theme groups is vitally important.  It's not necessary for
LEGO to participate in the theme groups (for example) to have a presence
here.

(...) Can you elaborate on what you mean by "sanctity"? I'm sensing that there's some problem here that you're more aware of than some of us. It may be that it's too sensitive to go into, so that's fine if that's the case. But my perception was that (...) (23 years ago, 15-Mar-01, to lugnet.admin.nntp)
