I think this is a good idea, but you should be careful of changing the labels
on these. People might get confused if you suddenly proclaimed everyone as a
member.... You might want to give "type 1" a different name, even if
internally it will be a "non-paying member" or whatever. You can still call
type-1 "users", but change the way they sign in. Having a password even when
you're not a "type 1 member" would be very useful. And there are currently
many enhancements that still make becoming a "type 2" worth it (and I'm sure
there'll be more enhancements as time passes).
Make any sense?

| (...) Aha -- it's a real-cookie vs. virtual-cookie problem. The code handling the filter page was (correctly) looking at the virtual cookie in your member record but the code displaying the actual lists of articles was (incorrectly) still looking at (...) (24 years ago, 19-Jun-00, to lugnet.admin.nntp)
