Aha -- it's a real-cookie vs. virtual-cookie problem. The code handling the
filter page was (correctly) looking at the virtual cookie in your member
record but the code displaying the actual lists of articles was (incorrectly)
still looking at the real cookie your browser was sending -- and the two were
different. I corrected the common page-display code to examine the virtual
cookies at startup, so now the problem will be cleared up for you.

p.s. Currently, any virtual cookies present in your member record override
any real cookies sent by your browser. I'm not sure if this is better or
worse than the opposite would be -- i.e., having any real cookies sent by
your browser override any virtual cookies present in your member record.
The only truly clean solution may ultimately be to do away altogether with
non-member cookies and make two types of members (i.e., what's currently
known as a user becomes a member of type 1 and what's currently known as a
member becomes a member of some more advanced type 2, with a transitional
path 1->2 somewhere in there).

| (Yes yes, I know, this is .admin.nntp, but like Frank mentioned, it seems better to post here than to .admin.general.) Something is wrong with my skip-filter settings. I set them to ignore .loc, except for some specific groups. But it doesn't show (...) (24 years ago, 18-Jun-00, to lugnet.admin.nntp)
