They are only on the front page because ENOUGH LUGNET MEMBERS THOUGHT THEY WERE IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO HIGHLIGHT THEM!! It is not because the group is there. The whole discussion could have been kept off the front page had members just chosen not to highlight it.

LUGNET currently has 2,500+ members. I’ve seen many times where a post has gotten on the LUGNET front page with just a single person spotlighting it. One person spotlights a gay post, and everyone who comes to LUGNET for the first time could find it logical to conclude that all 2,500+ LUGNET members are interested in gay topics of discussion. I think Eric makes a very legitimate point.

Something can make it to the front page with only one spotlight? Sure: as long as those other 2,499+ members aren’t spotlighting something else.

If you don’t want to see something on the front page, then spotlight something else! Spotlight everything else you’d like to see! If you’re a member, you can spotlight each and every post you think deserves spotlighting - there’s no limit.

If everyone who didn’t approve of the need/existence/content of the LGBT group (or posts about it), actively highlighted non-LGBT content posts, the LGBT group/interests would soon be off the spotlight lists...

(That’s comparing the active posters... there’s a huge silent contingent out there too...)

Cheers
