I appreciate what Larry is doing, and I do think it's a good thing that
community members teach new people where to post. Please, don't place
the burden of redirecting all these posts on me, since I will have no
time left for other things (like codeing).

I don't think anyone wants to put the burden on you for these types of
posts.

But I would like to see the climate change here so when people do correct
others for misplaced posts they aren't chastized for it.  Larry's right
there.

Whether it takes a large effort from caring community members to make it
generally acceptable to politely redirect posts, or whether it takes a
little work from an admin, it doesn't matter to me, so long as it gets done.

I correct misplaced posts most of the time I see them.  But in the case of a
recent one in .general, I redirected it politely, contributed to the thread,
and a few others ignored my redirect and replied directly in the improper
group.

Granted this isn't as bad as an auction/sale post in a non-market group, I
was still surprised at the both of them (Mark and Richie, who are regular
posters) not even acknowledging the redirect.

The other thing is we used to have Shiri around almost all day long
redirecting posts ;-)  She was quite successful at doing it without getting
people upset.  She hasn't been around in that capacity now because she has a
lot less time, and her absense made redirect posts fewer and farther
between.  Making people less accustomed to them.

Using Email might be a gentler way, but with the downside of not
teaching the people who didn't make the mistake yet (lurkers and such).
I'm not sure which is better.

There are definite advantages to posting and definite advantages to private
email.  But I think redirecting is something that's better to post publicly
so others can learn too - not just newbies but everyone.

That said, what's the chance of this thread ending? :)

Fat? ;-)
