I think you went off half cocked.
My reply to Cary was thanking him for stepping up and doing what needed to
be done. (and lamenting that sometimes people give grief about it) I
suspect he wasn't (and I know I wasn't) singling you out as you didn't start
the thread. Someone else did, who maybe ought to know better, maybe
oughtn't... but didn't.
Getting threads steered back in the correct direction is a needful thing if
the information content of LUGNET is to remain rich. DOING that steering
does not necessarily imply any blame is being assigned to those that
misdirected the thread. But somehow, that's how it always seems to be taken
by someone. Which makes it frustrating for those trying to help. Hence my
append praising Cary (one of the most polite people here) for so helping.
The append then went on to discuss the larger issue which I think is as
strong and worrisome as ever. LUGNET is on autopilot and it's not a good
thing. It's got me worried a great deal and I am not the only one.

| (...) I don't think anyone was being, or needed to be, apologetic. It seemed more of a rare case of being quite polite, especially when the offending parties clearly did not intentionally, and quite understandably, misdirect their posts. (...) (...)
