It probably is OK for lugnet.people -- that's prolly the safest spot, unless
it happens a lot. I like the idea of a special "contact me" forum, but then
again maybe it has more pros than cons -- it would be one step more hidden,
and it's hard to find people who don't know they're being looked for...and
I'd hate to see any kind of flames or derision from regulars if a newbie
didn't post in such a specialized group.

I really like this idea, and it ties into the overall long-term plan for the
top area bars...

So, rather than specifically having an icon for contact notices, I'll bet it
would work to roll that in to a generalized "there's something important for
you to look at, that you haven't looked at yet" icon. I suppose it could
even replace the sign-out key and jump to my.lugnet.com -- with some sort of
graphical differentiator showing whether or not there's something actively
awaiting attention.

You mean like a "how to contact me" type of thing? E-mail addresses, ICQ
numbers, vacation notices, etc.?

Yea, I agree, I think lugnet.people probably is the best place. lugnet.market... is also acceptable I think. lugnet.general is probably ok, but not preferred (I'd actually really like to see us try (...) (24 years ago, 7-Feb-01, to lugnet.admin.general)
