As for delays, well unfortunately I get all sorts of performance
fluctuations over on this side of the Pacific (or perhaps within my • ISP?),
so it's hard for me to attribute any particular problem to your end...

That's weird -- I get that here too during lunchtime (EST) during the work
week.  Massive Internet clog some times.  :-(

I've talked to my ISP about site problems such as the ones Paul Baulch
describes, and they say it's not uncommon to experience a lot of delays due
to peerage arrangements with the various ISPs along the route that data from
Australia has to take.

It may be that a direct path can be taken going through just one ISP, but if
they don't have peerage arrangements set correctly, it means that the data
that wants to get to Todd's site has to take an inordinately long detour
through other ISPs who have peerage arrangements with each other, until the
data finally gets to the other end.

I'm not too familiar with what's required for a peerage arrangement to send
traffic somewhere, but I'm sure Todd knows.  :-)

Maybe he can talk with his peerage ISPs and find out just how the data is
getting to his servers, and make an alternate arrangement.  It seems that
some companies don't peer with each other for one reason or another, and it
may not be possible to do much.

(...) No, it just never completed a write operation -- random bad luck in a section of unsafe code that assumes that power won't go out or that the system doesn't melt down. I rebuilt it from redundant data in the data matrix but it should still (...) (24 years ago, 14-Jan-01, to lugnet.admin.general)
