And while we're on the topic of receiving LUGNET messages by email, here's a
feature that I would very much like to see: a single switch to turn them off
for a while. (Not keeping them to send later, just to not send anything for a
while.) Sometimes there's just too much mail flooding in on some topic or
another, and it would be nice to have a quick way to turn it all off, then,
when things cool down again, turn it back on.
Another useful situation would be when you go on vacation or other type of
data-fast where you won't be reading your email for a few days. Without a
quick checkbox you either end up with ten thousand messages in your mail box
(okay, I exaggerate a bit) or end up having to unsubscribe to all the groups
you follow, and then when you come back, resubscribe. With a switch, much
work would be saved.
At least for the user. I'm sure that the law of conservation of hassle will
come into play in here. (Hassle is conserved, don't you know? Either all the
end users have a hassle doing something, or the system designer goes through
an amount of hassle equal to all the user's combined hassle, to prevent them
from having it.) Hopefully to get this working won't require a lot of work on
Todd's behalf. Sorry if that turns out to be the case, though. I didn't mean
it. But it sure would be nice to have this feature! :-)

( I can't tell for sure because I can't remember which groups (...) (24 years ago, 19-Oct-00, to lugnet.admin.general)
