It's interesting. There are a whole ton of rejected messages from a John
Neal in the dead-articles file on the server -- none of them ever showed up
in a newsgroup prior to Kurt's posting. The only way Kurt could have known
about them is if he and John were exploring the system together -- or if
Kurt and John were the same person.
Kind of made me wonder. I did some more digging, I wrote to Kurt and asked
for an explanation. He explained (for the record) that he and John were
differrent people.
I also happened to call John on the phone tonight and had a very enjoyable
talk. He explained more about what had happened (details not really
relevant here) and appreciated the rationale behind the background checking.
So -- for the record, John Neil and Kurt Eilers -are- different people.
I'm not going to apologize for having asked Kurt/John to clarify or explain,
because it's part of my job to check out anything highly out of the ordinary
like this, but I do think I owe Kurt an apology for jumping to conclusions
so quickly and causing him to feel that I was harassing him in e-mail. I'm
going to write Kurt now and apologize.
