I can parse the HTML, but that's not particularly elegant.

Yikes, and bandwidth and CPU intensive.  The only scripts on the lugnet.com
server which are intended to be called from other scripts are...

   /news/avid.cgi
   /news/rate.cgi

...those have APIs (others don't).

I've been really busy at work and not able to hang out here as much as I'd like. But I noticed that there's a new rating system, which seems pretty cool, except it seems useless to me as an NNTP user. :( Todd, are you aware of the GroupLens system? (...) (25 years ago, 5-Apr-00, to lugnet.admin.general)
