(...) 6. Change your server config to transparently ignore messages crossposted to valid lugnet groups and RTL. My guess is that people doing this (maybe I'm giving people too much credit?) have some setup (like a caching server) where they can in (...) (26 years ago, 26-Oct-98, to lugnet.admin.general)

  CFD: rec.toys.lego feed here

As of today, there have been half a doezn posts to rec.toys.lego already which were crossposted to one or more lugnet.* newsgroups. Of course, those messages will never make it here because this server doesn't carry rec.toys.lego and doesn't (...) (26 years ago, 26-Oct-98, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: CFD: rec.toys.lego feed here

(...) Yeah, I understand that. If you want to continue to be non-standard :) you could make a special exception for rec.toys.lego. (...) Or, yeah. I like this best. (26 years ago, 26-Oct-98, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: CFD: rec.toys.lego feed here

(...) Ah! Yes, that's definitely the Right Thing. (I know it when I see it.) (26 years ago, 26-Oct-98, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: CFD: rec.toys.lego feed here

(...) You can't do this. It's unethical to cancel someone else's post when it is not spam. Even if they happen to have cross-posted to lugnet.(something) I'd say the best option is to ignore it. If you see one cross-posted, and you want to, send a (...) (26 years ago, 26-Oct-98, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: CFD: rec.toys.lego feed here

(...) Ah yes, that sounds like a very good idea. The reason it's rejecting articles posted to non-groups now is because people can misspell something -- and it's better to give them an immediate error message than to silently file the article in (...)   Re: CFD: rec.toys.lego feed here

(...) Hmm, maybe it should only be persnickety about group names if they match /^lugnet\./ The newsgroup-validation logic was added back when all the groups started with different prefixes (before the reanming to the lugnet.* hierarchy). --Todd (26 years ago, 26-Oct-98, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: CFD: rec.toys.lego feed here

(...) Don't forget to comment your code that you are making the assumption that all lugnet news groups are prefixed with lugnet.* You never know when you'll decide you need to change back for one reason or another. Sarah (26 years ago, 26-Oct-98, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: CFD: rec.toys.lego feed here

(...) But you already don't let EVERY message posted here show up here. If the person is not registered. And if they are registered, then they should know how to post, right? (Ie, go to news.lugnet.com -- or whatever the name is here.) Maybe I'm (...) (26 years ago, 27-Oct-98, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: CFD: rec.toys.lego feed here

(...) Heh heh, I know. :) I wouldn't do it; it was just there for completness. (...) Well, I guess half for the reasons you brought up last week about what's been happening to sff.* groups, and half because of confusions that will inevitably arise. (...)
