Suggested Change in Charter for ALL Lugnet Theme Groups.

By "theme", I mean castle, space pirate etc.

I suggest the pre-auction announcements should be allowed in all theme
groups,

<snip>

Let me be among those to vote that this is a Bad Idea (tm).  Further • mitigating
this is the fact that it's an Unnecessary Idea.

No idea is "unnecessary".

Well, there I'm forced to disagree.  See below.

Now, I'm all for market groups that are themed (ie lugnet.market.castle,
lugnet.market.space, etc).  I remember thinking this would be a good • idea at
some point in the past, but it was recently suggested in another thread • in
lugnet.admin.council.

I agree 100%. I think I have suggested this at least once in the past, • both
times it was knocked on the head. This is well suited to groups like • technic.

I think this fills the need you're looking for (a place
for people to find sales of specific themed sets) without blurring the • line
between the discussion groups and the themed groups, which is something • Todd
has indicated he is not going to allow to happen.

Indeed.

So, if you agree that making individual lugnet.market groups by theme fill • all
the same needs as changing the charters of the discussion groups to allow
marketing messages,

This would exceed the aims by a mile. As it would include _all_ market posts

AND you understand that making individual lugnet.market
groups for each theme has the added benefit of NOT asking Todd to do • something
he has SPECIFICALLY said he doesn't want to do...

I do not follow this. You should understand that Todd is not a pile of logic
circuits - he is capable of changing his mind. But that was not the
intention of my post. The aim of my post was to get an idea of what people
feel on this issue. It has failed to do that. I am beginning to think most
people do not care either way. That is why post like this one can sit for
over 2 weeks without being mentioned:

The idea is unnecessary.  Or, at the very least, debating it is.
