For-profit meaning the site itself took a cut of the auction proceeds through listing fees, percentages, or both. In that case Yahoo! wouldn't be there, but (...) "Auction will end at this time *or* at X minutes beyond the last bid (whichever is later)", where X could be anything from 5-30 minutes. This would take most of the steam out of the snipers. (...)
