Try this.. go here

then click on the box to the right of the star. This gives you:
http://www.lugnet.com/news/display.cgi?lugnet.announce:74

a "does not exist" message. Is that followup in another group? Did it get
cancelled? How did you know to put the URL in the tree? Don't do that! I
TRUSTED that tree. :-)

I bet it was Mike that cause this when he cancelled 74 and replaced it with...

http://www.lugnet.com/news/display.cgi?lugnet.general:136

Yes, that's what happened.  Cancelled articles don't reflect into the DB of
refs.  Pruning has to be done at runtime.  I think trn uses ( ) to show
cancelled and expired articles, like this:

   ( )--( )--[1]+-( )--[1]
                |-[1]--[1]
                \-[1]

It wouldn't be difficult to check whether an article still exists and
display a non-link if it's gone.

I think some thinking about the tree is in order. (and while you're at it, can
you replace the squares with a LITTLE more context? I know asking for a whole
indented list with times, authors, line counts, etc., is a bit much, but is
there useful stuff you could display on a slightly bigger tree?... then make
the tree fit in a scrollbox. Just kidding. About the second part.)

An indented text-based tree would be very easy to write (like the Netscape
built-in newsreader does) because the tree of articles is returned as an
object and there's just a display routine to dump it.  But I really need to
focus on finishing up AucZILLA VII and getting the member stuff & houses
running...

I'll see tomorrow morning if I can do something additional for the
threading.  It might only be 1/2 hour of work, whereas the other stuff
waiting is still quite a bit.

(...) Well, just tell me to stop. :-) I've got the spare cycles (well, actually, I am blowing off working on an architecture doc so ME BAD) so I'm beating on the interface. I can break *anything*. Just ask our developers. ++Lar ======== Posted via (...) (26 years ago, 16-Oct-98, to lugnet.admin.general)
