this is [correct behaviour], because the whole link is still active. The
link consists of the subject in the blue Top Stories Box AND the text in the
yellow box (in FF clarified by the dotted line). Click on any place on the
site to de-activate the link.

Yeah I was pretty sure it was correct behaviour, but it could be a little
confusing/annoying. I guess there's no easy way to work around it?

Hi Ross,

to be honest, the way I wrote the source code isn't the cleanest way.

The closing tag for the link isn't placed between "Green Quad" and <span> like
it would be correct. But to force IE to display <span> it has to be a link,
because IE knows :hover for <a>-tags only (which is NOT correct behaviour).

Ah good old IE! Maybe we should penalise people who use IE by using the correct
code?????? (Yes, I am kidding!!!!)

(...) I have to admit that I haven't installed IE7 yet, does anybody know whether IE7 knows the :hover pseudo also for other elements than just <a>? If yes, I indeed would change the code, because IE6- users wouldn't lose any significant (...) (17 years ago, 19-Feb-07, to lugnet.admin.general)
