Am I alone in getting annoyed with TLCs relentless market posts in
non-market groups?
|
Probably not alone, but Ill bet most people are willing to tolerate it in
the name of good relations with TLC.
That said, I think you raise a good point, although Im not sure I would
have done it as a direct reply to one of the posts in question.
|
Is this what we envisaged for LUGNET?
|
It certainly isnt, no. However, I think in this case, the groups it was
posted to are fairly targeted: Posted to .trains because its about
trains; posted to .events.brickfest because it was mentioned at BrickFest
and this is follow-up information; posted to .lego because its a TLC
thing; posted to .market.buy-sell-trade because its a market thing; and
posted to .announce because its an announcement. (Im not defending it;
Im just analyzing what I think was the reasoning for the wide
crossposting.)
|
I know some people wont believe this, but I really wasnt trying to spam any
groups. Your assessment was pretty accurate. I get complaints all the time via
email, IM, phone, and in person that people didnt see my posting on a certain
announcement, response, etc. After years of having people upset at me for not
posting in *the* place that they follow, and saying stuff like If its a train
youre talking about, put it into .trains! (or whatever other examples), I
started following orders :)
|
The main things Id change about the crossposting next time if I were Jake
is using .lego.announce instead of .announce, and using .market.shopping
instead of .market.buy-sell-trade.
|
Thanks Todd, that makes more sense. Ill do that from now on.
|
Again, I dont think youre alone, but in the interests of having good
relations with TLC and accomodating those who do want to see marketing
messages from LEGO in non-market groups, Im not going to intervene here
unless these marketing posts get really out of control. Yes, its true
that TLC is being allowed to break the rules here. Is that bad? Im not
sure. It feels wrong to me (the worlds biggest compartmentalized dork),
but history has shown that cracking down on TLC for things like this has
started flamewars in the past and that is much worse than letting them
bend the rules.
|
Hey, this is your place, and Im just a guest.
If Im not adhering to the house rules, just give me a smack and remind me what
the house rules are. The company and the community has a great working
relationship, and will continue to, Im sure. Theres no need to bend the rules
out of fear of damaging our relationship.
Ive got a pretty thick skin, so feel free to jump on me! :)
|
Anyway, you might consider writing Jake privately and expressing your
concern about the wide crossposting, and see what he says.
|
Yes, please feel free to send me any concerns. Always. My inbox is always open.
Again, my apologies.
Jake
