As some of you know, Todd Lehman, who's project CLSOTW was, lost enthusiasm
for working with the AFOL community about a year ago. He continued to update
his feature for a few additional months with the assistance of a community
member or two.
Hm...I wonder why he lost enthusiasm? Did he state a reason for this?

Yes, he wrote a letter back in June, but I asked him not to post it because
I felt it came off as too negative. Whan I was about to take the riegns,
before the wagon went off the cliff, I didn't want the community to panic.

There were many small reasons. And really, I can't speak for him but I'll
give you a general idea, for the sake of my not wanting to see people wildly
speculate here. It's much more normal than people might speculate...

Some issues were related to changes in the community. Todd always loved it
when there were just a few die-hard geeks, all trying to get their old space
sets, etc. :-) He knew many of them very well, and since misses them. Plus,
Todd eventually became 'Space complete,' taking that challenge away.

There was an unpleasant security issue with an individual around that time
which I won't comment on.

And of course, his and my relationship had a lot to do with it. Todd moved
out of our place.. began a new relationship, etc. I have to guess that our
old projects felt a bit like they belonged in the past too.

You have to understand that our time together on LUGNET was extreme. He and
I were like left and right hands - together 24/7 doing only LEGO-related
computer work and parts auctioning to support it. We had an unnatural (and
unhealthy) obsession. I think he realized soon upon stepping away that he
needed to put things in a different perspective. He even tried to warn me of
that too, but unfortunately I didn't figure it out for.. well, some-number
of months.

So, trust me when I say: as his friend, I'm glad for him that he's taking a
break. It's a Good Thing(tm)

A fully automated CLSOTW is a great idea, and I just wonder *why* Todd didn't
go with that one.

Simple. It would have taken work to make that so, and he had decided to take
a break from developing things any further.

Is he upset because it wasn't his idea,

?! heck, no.

What "critical action" was he talking about?

Sorry, I can't remember right now, but I think it had something to do with
uploading to the server.

Thanks for that background information! It's very much appreciated. Now, I have an idea on what's going on! Respectively, <<_Matt Hein_>> Lugnet member No. 1112 (23 years ago, 13-Mar-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.admin.general)
