What you see now under "Trains" is what was remaining in that category
the last time a true reindexing occurred.  They no longer read
"Trains" because after posting my announcement last night, I went to
fix the 9v stuff, and found those few 4.5v items mixed in, and fixed
all of them.

AFAIKnew, Todd has an indexing cron job that should have fixed this
problem, but my understanding of what it would be able to do seems to
be off.  I would have assumed that it would have cleared these out by
now.

Awrighty, I just expanded the responsibilities of the cron job so that it
now wipes out obsolete links/references in addition to reindexing new ones
(...shouldda just done this originally, come to think of it).

Except: (I know what you're going to say) that really stinks.  We need
a way to show ALL trains, no matter what the product line is.  I'm not
sure how to make this happen, other than Todd adding the product line
and theme fields to his fuzzy search.  Right now, "Trains" as a search
only returns items with "Trains" in the product name, and that's not
good enough.  So this is something to fix.  Adding the field to the
search would be an interim solution, until such time as Pause gets the
fuzzy category system he's working on.

Technically, in terms of the name "Pause," it won't ever get that...but what
it turns into definitely will.  You'll be able to go to a "trains" page and
explore subcategories or look at whole listings, and (alternatively) you'll
also be able to search for "trains" and get a list of category matches (9v
Trains, 4.5v Trains, 12v Trains, DUPLO Trains, etc.)  I don't think there'll
be many more code changes to the current Pause-DB interface, which is simply
a transitory interface put in place as a stopgap for the real shebang coming
later.

Note that a ?theme=Trains search has never done what you're looking
for, as quite a few sets now in the three product-line values used to
be in totally different product lines altogether (such as Universal).

Yeah.  For this we'll need to have fuzzy thingies on sets and stuff, and a
special "trains" (uncapitalized) object/category, as opposed to the "LEGO
System Trains" (capitalized) product-line-based object/category.

Maybe I can get access to the up-front theme pages (which are not
linked to the database),

I'm not sure I know what you mean by "theme pages" (can you give a URL
example)?  Do you mean pages like like--?

   http://www.lugnet.com/pause/search/?theme=12v+Trains
and
   http://www.lugnet.com/pause/search/?theme=Space,Blacktron+II

Because those pages are just built on-the-fly by looking up in a reverse-
index of matching themes on a string-based field.  Anytime you add a new
theme in the set data fields, it'll automagically appear as a new "page" and
anytime you remove the last instance of a given theme-name in the set data
fields, it'll automagically (now) disappear.

and can, at the very least, get an
all-encompassing list for trains set up there (but that wouldn't be
live data).

Let's see what Space Boy has to say about all this...

Hmm.  More questions.  Always more questions.  :)

How desirable is it *really* to have a list of all trains sets (9v + 4.5v +
12v + etc.) on a single page, and how soon is it really helpful versus the
hassle of going to 3+ separate pages for now?

(...) 12v Trains is two words. All three (9, 4.5, 12) are. The fact that a match on theme=Trains works at all is because the indices have not gotten cleaned up yet; most all items were first "themed" at Trains, with the secondary characteristic set (...)
