cutting and pasting the part in photoshop despite the 4x2 being a slightly darker shade, the plate fits precicely over the lower plate. The shadows on the plate match up too. They have definately made bricks and figs in silver before. I have seen them in LEGO brand shops (on chains as jewellery) A friend has a silver modulex brick on a chain too :) not sure if they have ever done the same in gold (19 years ago, 25-Nov-05, to lugnet.dear-lego)

You do see half timbered houses in the UK a fair bit usually in terraced streets most frequently above shops. I've certainly seen more half timber than full timber but I guess they last better.
