Re: On the subject of gluing

Thank you to everybody who contributed to this subject. I purchased PVC pipe glue (based on MEK) from my local hardware store. It works great! It appears to be prethickened so is easy to apply. I used a toothpick. It is strong enough to firmly join (...) (27 years ago, 4-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) The fans are to meet OSHA guidelines, but I would -not- recommend working with the stuff in a enclosed space. It is dammed potent stuff... (...) That, or Slaters (UK) make MEK_PAK, which works great, or laccure(sp) thinner is also MEK. You (...) (27 years ago, 28-Dec-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: On the subject of gluing

I got a pint of Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) at Home Depot about 2 years ago... I will try mixing some with extra plastic to increase the viscosity. I have a darkroom exhaust fan and that's my place for such work. How about the typical plastic plumbing (...) (27 years ago, 1-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: On the subject of gluing

Terry, I use acetone for gluing. I put a piece of blotter paper in a small metal container, and add just enough MEK or acetone to make it very wet. Then I push to bottom of a brick into the blotter paper and hold it there for 1-2 seconds. Then snap (...) (27 years ago, 1-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) John Kelly is more experienced with this than I am, but I did spend a few hours in the model shop once... :-) The 'glue' is MEK: Methyl Ethyl Keytone. (Spelling?) Very nasty stuff, dangerous fumes, etc. Vent fans are placed within about a foot (...) (27 years ago, 28-Dec-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Recension: Star Wars-Lego

(...) (27 years ago, 9-Dec-99, to lugnet.loc.se)

Re: Can you remove the glue from lego store displays?

Short answer is no. The glue used in the american model shop (it sometimes differs from model shop to model shop) is a mixture of MEK and ABS. It is literally liquid brick. When we would need to make repairs, we would do so with a chisel, then try (...) (27 years ago, 18-Nov-99, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Glue for models

woohoo! This is definitely in my field. When I was building models for LEGO we used two different types of glues. (this was different across different model shops, so this really only applies to Enfield.) For 95% of the gluing we used a mix of ABS (...) (28 years ago, 25-Mar-99, to lugnet.trains)
