I found an ultrasonic radar device that can sense objects up to 10 meters away. It runs off 12VDC, but if it was used as a motion detector, then that wouldn't be a problem. I shouldn't be that hard to design an interface to the RCX though. It is (...) (27 years ago, 28-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) You might want to use a sliding mechanism on the pen to eliminate the arc that it draws. It will skew the measurement (no longer quite linear scale) but not so badly that it will be useless. Straightening the lines out will help make the (...) (27 years ago, 28-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics)

I have a Wal-Mart down the street from my house. They started clearancing things. Iwas there everyday for about 4 days straight, waiting for certain items to go clearance. Looks like the 8250 Rescue Sub is being replaced by an "upgraded" version (#8299) which includes a CD-ROM (on e-toys at (URL) ) for $50--thus explaining the reduced price via Shop-at-Home. E-toys talks about the motor (#8720), but I don't think (...) (27 years ago, 28-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics)
