(...) Actually it was a bug in LPub. ldglite pre-crops the image to the smallest enclosing rectangle. LPub didn't expect this, applied its own crop routine, and added artifacts. Also this pre-cropping is why ldglite process is much faster than (...) (21 years ago, 18-May-05, to lugnet.cad)

(...) Tim, The "large thing" looks like some kind of coil+ferrite core to me. AFAIK That is really part of the tuned circuit for the radio reception.
