Re: Wanted to trade: 6090 Royal Knight's Castle for Mindstorms.

(...) Geoff, Do you mean the Brick processor with the power jack? The only brick with the power jack is the RIS 1.0 (not sure about RIS 1.5). I can confirm that RIS 2.0 doesn't have a power jack. RIS 2.0 uses a USB infrared tower. The RIS 1.0 uses (...) (21 years ago, 7-Mar-05, to lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade)

Re: Comments wanted: Plans for easier parts authoring

I have now given Blender a good test, and I am hooked. The user interface is a bit weird at first, but it grows on you, and I expect it to be quite easy to use once I get the hang of it. The software features are perfect for this: GNU Free software (...) (21 years ago, 8-Mar-05, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: RIS 2.0 Problems - Language war in 32k RAM

(...) No no no... Real programmers don't use guns because we don't believe violence actually solves anything. (21 years ago, 7-Mar-05, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) So nice to hear that, and I actually care quite a lot! I have used Lego quite a lot myself to teach computer graphics. Not CAD as such, but 3D modeling, animation and programming. Swedish M Sc students have often grown up with a large pile of (...) (21 years ago, 7-Mar-05, to lugnet.cad.dev, FTX)

Re: RIS 2.0 Problems - Language war in 32k RAM

(...) *CERTAINLY NOT* I'm horrified that you would think that. A real programmer has to find out which end of the soldering iron gets hot by 'the experimental method' (ouch!). Soldering irons are *hardware* and no real programmer would want to be (...) (21 years ago, 8-Mar-05, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: RIS 2.0 Problems - Low Level Languages?

(...) You could certainly use assembler (and presumably hex) using brickOS but I don't think it's possible with the standard firmware. Of course a true 'Real Programmer' would just dump the firmware altogether and write to the bare metal. (...) (...) (21 years ago, 8-Mar-05, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: What if.....

(...) Its funny that you mention articulation, as that was sort of the resion why I came up with this idea. Here is a picture that shows why. (URL) some of you know my TGV is a 10ft long articulated train. I wanted to make the cars for my TGV longer (...) (21 years ago, 7-Mar-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: RIS 2.0 Problems - Language war in 32k RAM

(...) That's true - but NQC is eminently usable. (...) For those who don't catch that reference: (URL) (real programmers even don't use assemblers but code directly in hex) (I actually have keyed a short program into a PDP-11 using the front panel (...)
