thanks for the comments yes, what you described is correct. the blades of the worm gear are angled acutely enough so that the up/down movement of the legs is not affected by the back/forth. with just one motor, you cant have too many axes of (...) (26 years ago, 12-Aug-00, to lugnet.build)

(...) Your approach is certainly very interesting! Honestly, I didn't know what a DeDion axle was, but I do now. :-) The design is probably very efficient and low frictiony, like you say.
