Has anyone built a LEGO model of a pantograph-powered train and actually powered it with overhead lines? --Ben (24 years ago, 24-Jan-00, to lugnet.trains)

Ben, Hi. A couple years ago I installed caternary over most of my layout. The support masts are all Lego elements but the wire is not. I use HO scale Maerklin pantographs to pick-up power on the engines (see "(URL) A wire runs down into the motor (...) (24 years ago, 26-Jan-00, to lugnet.trains)

Those of you that don't know... Brian is a "stealth" member of GMLTC, he doesn't live in the Twins any more but still comes out for shows. Larry, Thanks for the build-up . . . but one correction: I abhor painting bricks and would never attempt such a transgression. However, stickers and decals are acceptable because they extend the creative possibilites without permanently damaging the (...) uhhh...stammer....uhhhh....wow! That has to be the most deceptive model I have seen in a long time. It looks simple, but it is not! First, a working pantograph. I think the rest of us have only dreamed about something like that. Second, nice railing (...) (24 years ago, 27-Jan-00, to lugnet.trains)

All, Larry mentioned a train in the GMLTC pictures that is not a standard Lego color. It is my beloved locomotive "Kathryn" which pulls the royal train on my layout. Brain, Wow, those are some very impressive examples of your work. I'd love to see in some more detail on how you create the stickers. It's hard to believe that the three green bricks on the front of your "Kathryn" are not painted and only covered (...) (...) That seems hard to believe! Are you, for instance, putting stickers on all sides and faces of those 1x1 with side studs? That is a lot of VERY fine sticker work. Frank, Kathryn is powered by an old 12v motor pulling power from a dummy 9v mechanism in the tender. The old 12v motors generally run quieter, smoother, slower, and just look better for steam loks than the 9v ones. The new 9v motors, however, are (...) James, I responded to your post earlier today but it didn't show-up so here's another try. I've been making Z-scale models under a microscope for years so Lego scale is a cakewalk in comparison.
