Fairmont Speeder, small track powed motorcar

While up in the SF Bay Area over Chrismat I got a chance to visit the Niles Canyon Railway, with the help of Zonker. They had a Fairmont Speeder and a few trailers. The RR park near me in Powey also has one, and I'd been thinking of modeling one. O (...) (19 years ago, 24-Feb-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Excellent work Mat. You beat me to the punch again. I had been collecting a few of those for that very reason! :) Rob "Mathew Clayson" <mathew_impact1@yahoo.com> wrote in message news:ICEJqA.3I9@lugnet.com... (...) (19 years ago, 24-Feb-05, to lugnet.trains)

Quite the innovation! I had no idea this part even existed! I'd like to try my hand at it also. Thanks for sharing. SteveB (...) (19 years ago, 24-Feb-05, to lugnet.trains)

(...) A correction to the above. The cars run off of 3 volts max, not 6 volts! And the rechargable device is not a battery, but a specalized capacitor. (URL) These caps have amazing storage capacity, but are rated at 2.5v and 3v surge. The series (...) (19 years ago, 28-Feb-05, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.parts, FTX)

(...) What happens when you run it off 9V as you do? Is the capacitor getting overvoltage? Would this have an effect on long term durability? I had been thinking of playing iwth these to try to make a people mover using Racers track but without much (...) (19 years ago, 28-Feb-05, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.parts, FTX)
