Originally built years ago...
Totally redesigned a year ago...
Slightly adjusted last month...
and FINALLY ONLINE:

A small Star Destroyer.

Plus an even smaller Star Destroyer.

Plus an absolutely tiny Blockade Runner.

Enjoy.

Dan, this is a neat little MOC - whats even better is the great job you did
Photoshoping the pictures, especially the ones as the ISD overtakes the RBR.
Great stuff!

Thanks. I tried to keep the retouching to a minimum - I combined pictures,
stretched them, and adjusted brightness and contrast. But everything you see
started as photographs of LEGO elements - even the stars in the background.

Am I right in thinking that this is built using a mix of old and new grey
pieces?  It sure looks that way in the last photo.  If so, I wonder if this is
the first MOC posted on Lugnet that uses both shades of grey together?

Yes, I used some new gray. Looks awful, doesn't it?

My digital camera seems to exaggerate the difference - it doesn't look as bad in
person as it does in that last photo. In dim lighting, I can barely tell the
difference between the colors. Some of the other photos are better - can you
spot the new pieces on the top surface of the hull? But the 2x3 wings on the
front really do look bad, all the time.

It should be noted that my old grays are *very* old, and pretty dirty. I played
with them in a sandbox when I was young (which is great fun, I recommend it; but
it's a bit hard on the plastic) and I've actually avoided cleaning the light
gray parts, on the theory that a bit of "weathering" only adds to the Star Wars
look. Thus, brand new bluish pieces stand out more than usual against my
collection.

I haven't commented on the color change before; my initial reaction to the news
was a sinking sensation - I'd just come out of my LEGO dark age, and was really
hoping to add to my collection of light grays gradually over many years. So I
was worried when I heard about the change, but I wanted to experience the new
colors for myself before deciding what I thought.

So I went ahead and added a few to the Star Destroyer, as an experiment. I also
tried them in a few other contexts, mixed and pure.

Now that I've done that, here's what I think: the new colors are a disaster!

Considered in isolation, they're great colors. I like grays with a little blue
in them. I've always thought the old light gray was a bit greasy-looking, kind
of weird.

But as LEGO pieces, yuck. The old light gray looks like metal, stone,
spaceship...the new one looks like plastic. Cheap plastic. I had hoped it would
look like blue-gray metal, or some futuristic material. Nope. Plastic. It looks
better if it's not mixed with the old color, but even then, it just looks fake.

The dark gray doesn't bother me as much, but then I don't use it as much. I
don't really like either version, I guess.

I'll be buying a few of those bulk packs of the old colors, I think.

Hey, a lot of my old white bricks have yellowed with age. Will these new grays
do that? Anybody know how to make them do it *fast*? (Maybe I should get a
sandbox....)

The new gray looks bad compared to the old gray, when one is trying for a model
that has an all-new uniformed color look. But think of models of large older
vessels that's been around for a few hull-patches and repaints... :)

I don't mind the new grays, but I do wish TLC would keep the old grays as well.
