Brickshelf gallery, when
moderated.
This moc is loosely based on concept art of Count Dookus Solar Sailer in the
Art of Episode II: Attack of the Clones book.
The size and final design of this moc were restricted by my parts collection,
which has been
diminished
by
recent mocs. Someday Id
love to build an even larger UCS version, with a fully-developed interior. Im
still working on a decent sail design, as well as a way to support the moc in a
display setting. Vertically-oriented mocs are a lot of trouble, as I learned,
because string, tall mocs, and wind are
a recipe for disaster.
Heres some deep links:
Dooku chilling in his posh recliner, sipping some tea.
Looking straight at the craft.
Showing off some greeblies on the rear, including the maneuvering thrusters on
the sides.
Me alongside the completed moc during photography. I like to call this the
Lenny Shot.
Please take some time to check it out on Brickshelf (after moderation). Ill post a mocpage soon with
lots of boring and unnecessary jibba-jabba.

Very cool. Nice greebles and so forth. The curved shape is well created, but
the 4 solar viens going directly up and directly down break the illusion of the
gradual curve, making it look like a flat plane with slopes on the front.
I might be anal, but I think dark gray round things should be capped with dark
gray round things: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=806595

Thats a great looking moc Ryan, all spiny and crustacean-like. Actually I think
it looks better than the concept art, with or without the actual sail. Come
on...resist the pacifist competition an put some guns on her. You continue to
be both the Porn King of Utah, and the Mercenary King of fighter design.
Seriously great moc my friend.

The supports for the sail cables that go straight up and down actually arent
supposed to do that. They clicked out of place and I forgot to fix them before
taking pics. You can see in
this shot that they have the ability to click backwards one notch, which looks
a lot better than the straight position. Ill take a slew of new pics when I
finally have a sail.
If I get my hands on some more dark grey radars, Ill try out your idea. As it
is, Im out.
Thanks for the feedback, Kev.

Thanks for the words, Keith. Im glad you like it. Im getting a little bit of
flack from a place whose forum banner is pronounced like a raspberry (/me steals
line from Tom McD.) for the shape not being curvy enough, but I wasnt going for
a direct replication of the concept art image. If I was, this model would be
very different.
Hmm...I havent NOT had guns on anything in a long time. Im feeling withdrawal.
Ill make something with guns asap.
Again, thanks.

A MOC really makes an impression on me when its from a genre I dont usually go
for, but it wins me over anyway. Usually Star Wars MOCs arent my favorite
because the guns and engines are too small and they lack giant missile launcher
packs (too much anime influence, its a sickness). But your Solar Sailer is
very well executed. I think its that all the parts are integrated into the
shape and function, and nothing looks tacked-on. I like the two Imperial
Shuttle canopies, too, although you could maybe get a more rounded look with a
pair of Jango Fett Slave I canopies. Then again, thats been done many times.
Nice work as usual, Ryan!

Ive taken some time for sure, and its been well spent. This is great stuff
Ryan, and I look forward to seeing where you take it from here. Itll help to
have those spines angled, but the linear effect as they are, is interesting too.
Ive also enjoyed the jibba-jabba, though I may have to seek therapy. Imagine
discovering that your own favourite angle happens to be Keiths favourite angle.
Yikes!
Peace and angles,
Professor Whateverly
