My main focus as a builder is castle, and I am not happy about the movement
of activity off LUGNET and onto classic-castle.com. I just dont have time
to check a bunch of different forums - especially lame message boards that
cant compare to the functionality of LUGNET.
I guess some people would rather be a big fish in a small pond.

Now, let me first say that I am against the fracturing of our community - I
like the concept of Lugnet, and wish to support it.
But let me also say that Classic-Castle has done more for the community than
hurt it. Right now, something like 75% of the CC membership is new to the
community - as in not from Lugnet. If CC didnt exist, LEGO Castle would
be in the same state it was in before CC came around - on the brink of dying.
And lastly, CC is more than just a new forum - it is a group of admins who
sit around all day thinking about what we can do to make LEGO Castles better,
to improve our community. Shortly, CC has done what lugnet.castle was unable
to do.
But one of the key points in all this is that it helped highlight some of the
problems with lugnet. The guy who first suggested CC have its own forum was
Troy Cefaratti, who is an avid lugnetter! Why? Because it is a clear and
simple message to the admins at Lugnet that things need to grow and change to
fit the changing community.
And guess what!
Todd saw what CC was able to do. And at BrickFest, he reconnected with the
community and has since begun permanent chances to the way Lugnet is run that
will enable Lugnet to grow and change. I would suggest the spacers not form
a theme site because in a few months, Lugnet will be making the changes
necessary to become the site it could be.
Lastly, I dont ask that everyone love Classic-Castle, or that all castle
people meet there (rather than lugnet.castle) - but please, do not insult
our site because you dont agree with it.

Exactly Lenny.
In economics this is called Pent-up Demand (well, ok, I think thats what its
called. Its been too long since I actually took economics to remember the
exact term). There was a need that was going unfulfilled and the admins of CC
filled it. Let me list some stats here:
Lugnet.castle has somewhere around 100 current known members (upon looking at
the current Knights section and poorly recalling the past .castle roll calls)
and 21,461 posts (not all of which are really castle related, like the recent
LEGOFan.net thread).
And .Castle has been around 4 and a half years.
Classic-Castle.com has currently 80,972 hits to the website (granted that
includes reloads).
251 registered users (and I will grant you not all of them post) and 9336 posts
to the forum.
All this in seven months.
So per month comparing posts over time:
Lugnet.castle has 21461 posts over 4.5 years = 397.42 posts a month
Classic-Castle.com has 9336 posts over 7 months = 1333.7 posts a month
Granted, thats not really fair since activity fluctuates, but Im illustrating
a point here.
Running the numbers alone shows that C-C has filled a niche that Lugnet just
couldnt handle. Believe it or not there ARE people out there who really hate
the way Lugnet works, and not just posting procedures. There are those who hate
the whole threaded post setup. Its all a matter of preference. C-C has been
able to attract a lot of lurkers who find it easier or more to their liking to
post to that forum rather than to this. Ive actually recieved thank-yous to
the admins for providing a Lugnet alternative, which just blows me away.
Now listen, before you go off and flame me, I love Lugnet. I am proud to be a
card carrying member of Lugnet. If I had a job currently, Id be donating more
money to Lugnet, I visit it more than once a day everyday. But blind loyalty
to Lugnet hurts it just as much as a thousand small ponds.
So really, if you dont like the activity being taken away from Lugnet.castle,
take Jons advice. Post something to .castle. Every MOC I make Ive posted to
Lugnet.castle. I get five times the replies at C-C, but I still post here.
Oh, hey, how did you like my Halcyon Castle? I posted it to Lugnet.castle,
havent but three replies to it, just a lot of spotlights. Heres your chance,
lugnet.castle, to increase your traffic! :) (for the record I have 22 replies
to it at C-C ;)
