| | | | | Anyone here know why Lego didn't make much of the Imperial Armada subtheme?
There were only two official sets in the subtheme (6280 Armada Flagship and
6244 Armada Sentry). Sure, the guy with the red shirt with blue stripes (the
sentry) was in several pirate sets, but that didn't excuse the lack of sets.
Frankly, Lego ought to have made some sets with Spaniards and Islanders
combined, so that there would have been a Columbus and Arawaks type of setup.
To top it off, the other two conquistadors only appeared in the flagship set
and the 6204 Buccaneers minifig pack; in essence, they were given the shaft.
Too bad, I think they look pretty cool and authentic. I'd like to see a
continuation of conquistadors in the future: a much broader choice of sets and
more minifigs, please! Anyone here concur with me? Let me know about any
ideas you might have. Thanks.

I like 'em fine. The Armada Flagship in particular. I find that the best
view of her is with her stern stuck up in the air, as her battered broken
bow points the way to Davey Jones' locker, and the victorious English
frigate's boats pick up survivors ;-)
Good source of parts though. I have just finished making one over RR style,
and I'm quite pleased with the results. The Governor of Port Block heard
about the dread pirate Doolittle's Aurora, and decided he wanted one just
like it. And what the Governor wants.....
The armada figs were certainly attractive, but there just aren't enough of
them about.
Don't the Amazon Adventurer Indians make a passable tribe of New Worlders?

Still baldly going...

Well, yes, if you had a ton of Achu figs, I guess it would work, but I think of
King Achu as more of a Brazilian or Peruvian (maybe Incan) Native American. If
the islanders are from the Caribbean (as they must be, considering the fact that
they're in pirate sets), then they could very well be Arawaks, who lived in the
Bahamas at the time Columbus landed there. I know, I don't have to be
historically accurate; it's just models we're talking about. But historical
accuracy is my thing : ).

It's a mystery that Lego only truly knows. I think they weakened the Pirates
line with the Islander series and then came back with an uninspired round of
pirate ships and either decided that was it or (hopefully) they would let it
sit fallow for a while and come back to it. There have been vague rumors of
Pirates returning, but nothing that I would consider encouraging.
Yes, the Armada needed an base such as the Eldorado Fortress of the Imperial
Trading Post. Even one closer to the Imperial Outpost would have done okay -
just buy multiple copies and build your own.
Building up a contingent of Armada figures hasn't been easy since they were in
so few sets. I have about 40 of them (and a slew of extra Morion helmets for
draftees <g>).

I think that the reason pirates left is because it could not be junorised

Sure it could. Heck, they already used wall elements, one-piece rowboats,
big hull pieces...
Pirates Jr. would probably have one-piece hulls for all the ships, would lose
the detailed decorations that made the large ships so nice, probably one-piece
masts and one-piece crossbars to hang the sails from. The sterncastle would
be
made from wall sections instead of bricks - but the captain's cabin would have
a trap door to drop victims into the bilges.
J, feeling cynical yet?

O.K. then, So you could junorise pirates. My next guess is that they just ran out of
ideas that the guys at the top would accept (we want to make a new pirate ship that
has 3 of the larger sized pirate hull middle pieces in it. no. o.k. then we are all
out of ideas because we cant make a decent pirate ship on these rediculously low
piece sount figures unless we make some new pieces. you cant make any new pieces, we
are over the quota already. o.k. then we cant make any more pirates)
