August 12th is coming up fast. I'm working flat out to complete several
fairly ambitious models finished in time. One aspect of the displays on show
will be a large spacecraft hanger for any sci-fi models which are brought
along. I'm also planning a medieval zone, a Lego Racers display and
depending on what people bring along with them, a nice train/town layout.
There are a large number of tables available, so everything can be kept off
of the floor.
For Piece by Piece, I am following a well established mold for this type of
event. Other collecting/building based hobbies such as Action Man, Beanie
toys, Hornby Railways and Meccano all hold large public events (And Lego
too, abroad). Meccano especially is huge in this country and is in the kind
of position I believe that Lego should be in. We could go down the route of
more cultish hobbies such as Star Trek, Dr Who, Transformers, etc, where
attendees are charged much more for entry (£25-£30), due to the limited
number of people who are interested. I believe Lego is bigger than that but
please let me know if this is a format that you would preffer in future.
With a public event however, we will be able to hire larger venues and
hopefully attract some fresh blood along the way. Several new AFOLs have
contaced me already and will be bringing along their stuff.
The hall I have hired is fairly large but could people please let me know if
they are bringing anything to the event. Personally, I'd like to put on a
good display of what UK AFOLs can do. C'mon, aren't we the best around?
