I notice the new train wagons now have prices.
I also notice, disappointingly that they some have high price markup over Germany
Notably 10013 and 10014.
I include the my own trains, and other shop at home exclusives as a comparison

             GBP   DM    Conv  Diff
KT103 15.50  44.95 13.83 12.07%
KT203 21.50  62.95 19.37 11.00%
KT303 12.50  35.95 11.06 13.00%
KT403 18.75  53.95 16.60 12.95%
10013  12.99  34.95 10.75 20.79% **
10014  10.99  29.95 09.22 19.26% **
10015  13.99  39.95 12.29 13.81%

3451    34.99  99.95 30.75 13.77%

Anyone have a German contact for a bulk order in time for the TVLF perhaps?

regards
lawrence

How does this work? Can they be bought in Germany, but Lego mails them to
the UK?

No. As you have probably seen
You can order for any country for dispatch to that country, and pay in their local currency.
You cannot order in DM for shipment to UK.
In this way Lego very conveniently maintain their price differentials.

I would have to struggle to think of another e-commerce site I use that ships internationally, but sets different prices
for each country. It is much more common that they just use their own local currency regardless of the customers origin.
No doubt there are some, just havent used em.

Unfortunately, Lego seems to have killed off (I am not saying deliberately) any competitive e-commerce source for Lego.
The problems of the e-commerce industry are probably largely to blame, but it cannot help to have Lego competing against
you with exclusives, such a broad inventory,  and of course a much higher profit margin (as their is no intermediary)

I am sure Xtian will help us if I ask him. The only problem of course if
that shipping to here will add to the cost so the actual saving will be less
(but I am sure you could have worked that out yourself :-) )

My friends, I am at your disposal.

BTW I am hoping to attend TVLF with a couple of local AFOL friends of mine and
meet many of you once again; however that depends entirely on the date, as I
shall be in London in mid-September anyway.

Best regards,
Torsten

Thanks Tosten

TVLF will likely be 15/16 or 22/23 of september.

Hopefully the new wagons will be shipping by then.
If so, I am sure there will be some orders we might ask you to bring over for us.
Fortunately, at least with shop at home I can order the products and pay for them myself, but have them sent to a
different address. So you would only have to do the physical carrying of the goods over.
Do you have a 40 ton truck?
:-)

OK. I suppose the place to start is to find out who wants what, and what the
costs will be.

Depending on costs, I expect I shall want 2 of everything.

Anyone else?

We can do this individually and without consultation.
As Lego dont offer a bulk discount, there is no advantage of us clubing together.

Though there might be a little bit in shipping, I dont know.
There is shipping cost from Lego to Torsten
Then shipping cost from Torsten to us. Hopefully this would be avoided, at least for some, if he attends the fest. (he
could bring it all over and I can reship it in UK to those who dont attend which would reduce costs)

Because of the way shop@home works, you are able to submit an order and pay for it yourself, but have it delivered to
someone in another country, and importantly in this case, pay the local country price.

So, as long as Torsten is willing to accept several parcels, we can each do our own thing.
No money need change hands or anything.
Apart from giving Torsten something for his trouble

Torsten, an obvious way for us to say thankyou would be to include something in the order for you personally. Say I
order some wagons, and I include a packet of bulk bricks for you

Where people might want to club together I suppose is where folks only want a limited number - like 1 or 2 sets.

The wonderful Jon D Hayward service might accomodate this though. Listening Jon?
In the same way he bought umpteen My Own Train sets to the portsmouth fest.

I would be willing to do same for me TVLF fest. i.e. order up a number of sets for folks attending.

Again this is really dependent on the good will of Torsten. If I remember, he came on the plane to the fest last time.
Not the ideal way to bring large quantities of sets with him.

Anyone want to include cigarettes and whisky while we are at it?
Sorry, only kidding :-)  Dont smoke myself, and wouldnt condone smuggling!

lawrence

;-)

If I do another bulk order a la My Own Train, it's not gonna help your cause
to reduce prices - it only knocks a bit off UK shipping...

...and by sharing out the shipping, I'd bump the price of each wagon up a
quid again - assuming that I order at least 9 wagons (for the 9 quid
shipping level)

OK, it's still better than 2.95GBP shipping to get one wagon delivered
directly from LEGO, but:

1. Who _really_ wants to wait for their wagons?!?
2. I lost money on the My Own Trains when I had to dump the left-overs on
eBay. Not sure I wanna do it again :-(
3. I will be sent out to Oz some time in the next 3 months - Murphy's Law
says that you know when it'll be!!!

Hope to see y'all at the 'fest though :-)

I meant a bulk order via Germany - to get up to 21% off UK prices
