Hmm, I hadn't heard any such rumors, but it would make some sense to have some
sets released in conjunction with the LEGO Harry Potter video game next year.

I'd read that they were releasing another Lego Harry Potter videogame. I didn't
read or hear about anyt new sets coming out, since the series has become darker.

Yeah, I had a feeling it was going that way. The first two movies produced a
deluge of HP sets. The third came with a decent spread. The fourth had a
handful, and the fifth only had a third Hogwarts, but not a lot of
movie-specific sets.
And actually, I think it's less that there's no way to produce kid-friendly sets
that tie in with the movie, as it is the fact that they're probably concerned
with having the HBP movie logo on the box. Even if it's just a scene where
everyone is sitting in a room eating popcorn, parents are going to see that logo
on the box and immediately think of how dark the movie is.supposed to be.
And there were people who were hoping that we'd see a LEGO Harry Potter game
done in the style of the LEGO Star Wars/Indiana Jones/Batman games...

Actually, I am surprised that, with Book 7 (and Movie 5) coming out in July,
we have not seen more HP related MOCs. Admittedly, I must blame myself
first, as I have been too busy with real life recently to put anything
together. I originally wanted to build something for the release of Deathly
Hallows. I may yet still get around to it (4 weeks to go). :-)

The following article is from <http://www.mugglenet.com/>
Last week we told you about LEGO's plans for a new Hogwarts Castle set to
coincide with the Order of the Phoenix film release. Our friends at
MillionairePlayboy.com have now informed us that this is the only set planned to
be released in 2007.
This is the first time that LEGO has only created one set to go along with a
Potter movie. Goblet of Fire saw four sets released alongside the film. We will
have more about LEGO's plans on this week's episode of MuggleCast.

After seeing the pilot episode to Sci-Fis Amazing Screw-On Head animated show
Ive been itching to make a werewolf. The Studios minifig version just doesnt
elicit terrifying to me as much as bobblehead, so I opted to start with the
Fenris Head and go the fully-articulated route. The scale is larger than
minifig - though it is close to the scale of the original Fenris Wolf. The
larger scale worked for me, though, as I like my werewolves oversized!
Click the pic to link to the folder:
Unfortunately the pictures suffer from a bit of the
photographing-a-black-MOC-late-on-a-Sunday-afternoon malaise. Ill try for some
brighter pictures soon.
Otherwise Im pretty happy with the results. Theres a high level of
articulation, and its quite sturdy. In the course of a half hour photo shoot
only 1 piece popped off (left foot). It can walk around in barrel-chested
humanoid mode, but looks at least as nice in traditional canine/Fenris-Wolf
poses.
The one area I keep waffling on is the hind legs. From some angles and poses
they look spot on to the way I intended. From others they look a little scrawny
or mismatched. I suppose this is might be understandable given that my life
models were greyhounds!
The feature Im most pleased with is the articulated jaw. I managed to fit a
functional mouth in the narrow Fenris head. Its spring-loaded, so the jaw
can be opened up and grip something, but it wont stay open on its own. Ahh,
well, Im just happy it can bite! This was pulled off by using a pair of
Technic rubber bands; one holds the jawpiece:
tight against the red glowing-eye flex tube, while another spring loads it to
the closed position. It fits, it looks right, and it works.
Thoughts, questions, feedback, and suggestions are all welcome!

ideas...
Castle themed passenger train.
Space themed cargo train.
Pirate Raiders.
Viking Long "Train".
Etc. Etc.
I didn't think this part of the contest was given enough attention in my

Very interesting.... and here I thought that TLG was REDUCING the number of new
parts so as to cut their red ink.
TLG has so many new parts that they no longer have much of a semblance of the
"System of Play" that they started out with in 1955. Seems that only bricks and
plates form anything resembling a system these days.

System / Harry Potter (and the Goblet of Fire)
Graveyard Duel
Duel au cimetière
El Duelo en el Cementerio
Ages 7-12, 548 Pcs. (C)2005. 56 page manual: 1 model (9 component models), 168
steps. Building time about 1 hour.
Price Range: $30 (USD)
RATINGS (Scale: Must-Have Excellent Very-Good Good Fair Poor)
Set: Must-Have / Models: Excellent / Playability: Excellent
DECALS? Yes. 1 sheet with 5 decals. 1 Tom Riddle headstone marker, 1
green brambles sticker, 1 green brambles with red snake-eyes sticker, and 2
other various headstone patterns.
SET DESCRIPTION
The Triwizard Tournament is over, and the end is a trap! Harry is teleported to
a graveyard, and who is there to greet him? Why, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named
himself! Death Eaters Peter Pettigrew and Lucius Malfoy join the scene with a
creepy graveyard backdrop including four graves, one tomb, an old wagon hearse,
a dead tree with bats and owls, skeletons, and the graveyard gate itself.
SPECIAL ELEMENTS
There are many excellent part finds hidden throughout this set. Black
Hippogriff Wings (unique to this set as of now), a 1x1-1x1 Bracket with Pin
(48724) (unique to this set for 05, and not many have come before), 2 black
1x4x1&1/3 with Curved Top bricks (6191) (not lots of these out there), a 1x4x2
with Centre Stud Top (4088) brick (unique in MdStone in this set), black and
MdStone chains, Tan Minifig Hair (Long Straight) (x218) (unique to this set),
Voldemorts head (unique), Peters Rodent-like head (again, unique), evil black
skeletons (2 of them, unique) 1x4 Redbrown plates with arm (30043) (unique in
this color), 2x2 tiles with skeleton patterns on them, and 4x4 Spoked Wheels (4
of them, unique to this year, nice to have more of them). With such a large
list of unique pieces, even though most of the elements in this set may be
small, it makes the part count even more impressive for the price of the set
(and this is a licensed set too!) Im sure I missed many an interesting part,
so look at Peeron if you need to know.
IMPRESSION
This set is by far the darkest Lego set I have seen, and its a good one! There
are some minor failings, but overall, this set is a good find.
The models break down like this: One graveyard gate (fits as a fence around the
smaller or medium sized graves), 2 small graves, on medium sized, the large Tom
Riddle grave, a dead tree, a hearse, a cauldron, and a graveyard keepers
shed/tomb.
The smaller graves look good enough (one looks poor from behind, due to using a
1x4x3 Skull (47990) for its headstone; it looks extra creepy from the front, as
it should, but the back isnt covered to hide the mould). These smaller graves
contain brown tiles with skeletons printed on them (each grave gets ½ of the
skeleton, so you have a full print between the two of them). While not as nice
as two more skeletons, it certainly helps keep this set at its impressive price
point.
The medium sized grave is an impressive size (8x12x8) and features a skeleton
with its legs replaced by robot arms (there are extra legs in the set for him),
allowing him to be mounted on a turning lance so he can burst from his grave!
It is adorned by a funny little frog too.
The large Tom Riddle grave has a few neat features, the first of which jumps
right out on the box, the black winged angel of death! I wonder how long this
set took to get through marketing with elements like this (though there are even
MORE disturbing bits coming up). The 13x16x7 1/3 (not including the angel)
grave is smooth topped, and opens to reveal snakes where a casket should be.
The black chains topped with technic ball-joints give an impressive look as
well.
There isnt too much to say about the gate, except that it is flanked by black
baby dragons. The dead tree seems innocent enough
except for the skeleton
leaning against it
and the spiders climbing it, and the bats and owls in its
bare branches
The cauldron is simple and only shows the sinister side by
having a dagger in it. Then again, if youve seen the movie or read the books,
you know what that cauldron is for
The hearse is also neat, though for play
value it is missing its horses to pull it (which makes sense in this set, let
Peter pull it). Its nice to see the 4x4 spoked wheels again, and the casket
that it carries (not the 2 piece coffins found in the vampire and Egypt
Adventures sets) has skeleton arms and legs in it!
The small building (tomb and keepers tool storage) has one of my favorite
things, and one of my least favorite things, about this whole set. The floor to
the tomb is tan/white checkerboard tiled! This is the type of thing you see in
MOCs all the time, but not in official sets. Its a great touch, and I hope to
see more of it! The floor slides away (at least it does if you remove the
stairs first) to reveal two incomplete skeletons! A black skeleton (whose
missing parts can be found in the casket on the hearse), and a jade skeleton!
And therein lies my least favorite part of the set. I find the addition of a
black and a jade skeleton to be awesome, but the jade skeleton only has a jade
body and arms (ala legless dementors). The head is a black skeleton head
(which, in itself, is really cool to have another), and there are black legs in
the set it can use. I would be happier to have a complete jade skeleton (body,
arms, AND head and legs), or trade the body and arms out for a second complete
black skeleton. Instead, it looks like a poor mongrel skeleton. In fact, hes
such a poor mongrel that one of his arms and one black leg have been thrown out
in the cemetery keepers garbage can!
Other than the 4 skeletons in the set, there are four other mini-figs. Harry
Potter himself, Peter Pettigrew (with unique ratty features), Lucius Malfoy (who
has a reversible head, one side normal, and the other side with Death Eater
mask) and Lord Voldemort (with eerie translucent glow-in-the-dark head), the
last two in robes. The robes are a bit long for the mini-figs, but Im sure
they can cope. The only things I can think that would make this set creepier
than it already is would be a big black pointy hat for Lucius, and a Cedric
Diggory figure with reversible head (one side the generic smiley, the other side
the poor Ex-Cedric). Also noticeably lacking from this set (and all of the
Goblet of Fire sets for that matter) is the Goblet of Fire itself! Possibly the
Portkey that teleported Harry to the graveyard was left out in order to avoid
teleporting poor Cedric as well.
Likes/Dislikes
Like: Lots of pieces, and lots of new ones!
Like: Tons of creepy elements
Like: Overall graveyard design (its not lacking in graves!)
Dislike: Patchwork jade skeleton
CONCLUSION
Every Harry Potter Lego enthusiast, every fantasy Lego builder, every Lego
wargamer should buy this set. Hosting a game of Brick Quest? Youll want to
pick up a couple! Great for undead army and cult building, there are lots of
great elements in here. Heck, you may even want to just keep it together as a
graveyard! Buy one for home, and one for the road!

System / Harry Potter (and the Goblet of Fire)
The Durmstrang Ship
Le bateau de Durmstrang
El Barco de Durmstrang
Ages 7-12, 566 Pcs. (C)2005. 44 page manual: 1 model, 128 steps. Building time
about 1 hour 20 minutes.
Price Range: $50 USD
RATINGS (Scale: Must-Have Excellent Very-Good Good Fair Poor)
Set: Very Good / Models: Excellent / Playability: Excellent
DECALS? No
SPECIAL FEATURES/COMPATIBILITY
X Really Floats
SET DESCRIPTION
The mighty Ship of the Durmstrang Institute emerges from its trip in the frozen
north countries of Europe with tall masts, streaming banners, and an assortment
of colors, from its back masts and hull and grey deck to its tan, mid-blue and
dark red trimmings. The passengers on board are dressed for their cold home
climate, and can take shelter inside the ships different opening levels,
allowing for more play area than first meet the eye. Four mini-figs from
Hogwarts join the Durmstrang Ship in the Target Exclusive version.
SPECIAL ELEMENTS
Many elements of the ship are unique or nearly so. The hull, deck and bow of
the ship have only previously been available in 7075 - Captain Redbeards Pirate
Ship, and the Dark Red Rounded Top 1x2x2&2/3 Window is only available in
Vladeks Dark Fortress (which cots twice as much, and has 1 to the ships 3).
The Dark Red 1x6x3&1/3 Curved Top Arch is unique to the ship, as are the
Mid-Blue 4 ½ x 4 ½ half barrel (there are 2 of each). For mini-figs and their
accessories, all versions have 2 Durmstrang Crest shields and dark fur patterned
torsos, while the Target exclusive has a unique ceremonial Dumbledore torso.
The ship also has a ton of 1x4 Mid-Blue tiles (11!) Three cloth streamers top
the masts as the non-plastic elements of this set.
IMPRESSION
First, let me lead off this section with two warnings. First, I purchased the
set for 50% off at Targets after-Christmas clearance, so my views will be
positively affected by the lower price I had to pay for the set. Second, I
built it months ago, but wanted to wait until I had seen Harry Potter and the
Goblet of Fire to compare the model to the ship as pictured in the movie, since
I could not find good pictures of it anywhere online. Therefore, the actual
building experience of the model is lost from memory.
Now that I have seen the move (two weeks prior to writing this review), I have
to say that the model is a good representation of the movie version. I was
pleasantly surprised by this, and am glad to be able to give it a thumbs up on
that account. Sure, it doesnt capture the massiveness of the Durmstrang ship,
but to do so would be prohibitively expensive!
I am not a fan of one (and two) piece hulls, but for anyone who wants their boat
to float, I suppose this is for you. One of my two biggest disappointments
about the set is the juniorised hull, deck and bow pieces, but this is a major
cost-factor complaint. To correct this into a more piece intensive solution
would raise the price considerably, and therefore I can let this slide.
The sheer number of arch, inverted arch, half arch, etc. pieces in the ship is
astonishing. I count 29 just looking at it! And more tan and dark red parts,
which is always nice! Great windows, great golden chrome dishes, and so many
mid-blue tiles! This set has special parts for just about anyone. All the
unique parts are also good reasons to wan this set.
There is some good hidden play value, and some bad unhidden play value as well.
Was the plank really necessary? This isnt a pirate ship a far as I can tell,
but maybe we can call it Viktor Krums practice diving board? The different
decks on the back all come apart to allow more play! The top cabin has hinges
to open it up (there is no actual room inside for anyone, and the design of the
floor leaves something to be desired, but cool non-the-less), and it comes right
off the deck it is attached too. That floor also lifts off to reveal the BIG
play room, with table, broom holder, and room enough for dueling practice.
The masts of the ship arent my favorite (again being the variety that only look
good from the front, and look hollow and technic-y from the back), and lead to
my other big gripe with the set, and one that probably wouldnt be too cost
intensive. There are no sails! I held this dislike until after I saw the
movie, to see if there were sails or not in the film, and there were. The poor
ship, it may travel by magic, but it must be most unhappy with no sails
attached. Maybe Ill need to make my own, but in that case, the rigging isnt
correct to attach it. I suppose the rigging is meant to represent rolled up
sails, but I dont come away with too strong an impression of that. And
further, the set already has cloth in it, in the way of the mast-top streamers.
There are lots of nice little special elements. A map tile, a scroll tile,
chrome gold 1x1 round plates, trans-orange 1x1 cones for the lanterns. But
probably my favorites are the shields. The two that are re-used old elements
are blue trim Black Falcon shields, a fan favorite. The two new ones? True to
the movie Durmstrang Crest shields! I was very impressed with this, and these
will make great additions for any castle fan!
Likes/Dislikes
Like: Lots of unique/rare parts
Like: Good playability with take-off decks
Like: True to the movie feel of model
Like: Durmstrang Crest shields!
Dislike: Hull/Deck/Bow parts
Dislike: No sails?!
Dislike: Bad building techniques (cabin floor, unsecured decorations in stern of
ship)
CONCLUSION
Overall I think this was a pretty good little set. Having paid only ½ price for
it, I would gladly purchase it again (or even two!) At full price? Thats up
to the individual, but I would sure be tempted (Im cheap, lets just say that).
The model looks good, if not a little fat for its length, but otherwise has
lots of play value for young (get the Target version with extra figures if you
can) and old (get the Target version with extra figures if you can) alike!
