ALE is Adult Lego Enthusiast, a newer (and preferred by at least some) term over AFOL. It's easier to pronounce as an acronym, sounds less stilted when you say it in words, and is generally more accurate too. See (URL) for the thread where it was (...) (19 years ago, 2-Jun-05, to lugnet.general)
