Heya all !
My opinion about news in 1999 mini catalog:
Technic - looks very bad
Town Jr. - Looks very very bad
Town Space centre - the body of this Space Shuttle is good but where are WINGS
??? I hope that this little black pieces in back of this shuttle are NOT wings
! My god...
Ninja - hmmm....
Adventures - nothing especially
Star wars - COOOOL ! Super !!!!! But where is FALCON MILLENIUM ???
Model Team - ???

If this is all the technic we get this year, you're right indeed. But

They're not wings. They're just stabilizers. Wings wouldn't do much good in
space, now would they?

Hehe... but IF it is SPACE SHUTTLE then it will landing like a plain. You know
- Discovery, Atlantis, Columbia... and all this NASA Space Shuttles. ;)) And
LEGO did just some Space Shuttles. Like this wonderful Technic model. Or this
Town Space Shuttle centres back in the 90's. (I'm missing a Model Team version)
But this new Space Shuttle.... no comment.

And even with the larger wing size on the real shuttles (compared to the
new lego one) they
are hard to land. Also, some of the new shuttle concepts, which do not
use boosters for take off, have
yet even smaller wings. the import factors in creating a booster-less
shuttle concentrate on weight reduction and larger cargo/fuel capacity,
ie removing wing area, which as noted above is not needed in space.
landing the shuttle will just require more skilled pilots and larger
flaps to reduce airspeed and add control.

Well, I guess in certain emergency situations it might need to land ON
a plain, but I'm not sure how it would land like a plain. :)

Actually, I think that that is a more accurate description of the flying
characteristics of the real shuttle than the alternative spelling
suggests. The one I heard was "like a brick, but less maneuverable"

I should think it is. I've never seen Technic on one of the little in-set
leaflets you get in Town (etc.) so I'm figuring this is a way of flogging
Technic to a younger and more excitable audience...
My tuppence worth - Star Wars cool, City Centre not. Space gubbins cool,
rock things not. Adventurers and Ninja both cool.
